steering wheel kind of "locked" on a straight way

Featured Replies

When I am driving straight for a while, it feels as if the steering wheel is a bit locked. Is this normal and if not what is causing this?

I have a new Skoda Octavia FL 1.6 manual, bought last September and I have now driven total 8.600km.

I have first noticed this on my last trip from Cairo to Hurghada a distance of 500km. There is no service center for Skoda in Hurghada.

Also, before yesterday I got a "message" that there was a problem with the brake fluid. The level was on minimum! After putting more brake fluid in, it didn't show the message again. But I find it strange, a new car, no service made yet, and now it doesn't enough brake fluid?

BTW I have guarantee, but the importer Artoc (which gives the guarantee) is only in Cairo, and I will go there when I am back in Cairo, but I wanted your opinions on these issues.

Thanks!

UPDATE:

Yesterday I went to the service center/importer.

Concerning the "locked" steering wheel: they couldn't find any fault, but I am still worried.

Concerning the brake fluid: there was a leakage in the system and they repaired it under guarantee, they said it was a fault from the factory.

That "locked" feeling is the power steering failing for some reason. Could be a number of things - How is the power steering most of the time? Could be a fauly angle sensor, could be the rack is leaking and you've lost all the power steering fluid.

Thank you for your reply. Power steering is otherwise normal. Since the first time that I have noticed the problem, I have driven 1500km and still the same feeling (not more, not less).

I have sent an email to Skoda about it, have to wait for their answer.

I'll keep you posted.

Power steering is electric so there is no fluid but it could be a sensor or electric glitch somewhere.
