Windscreen wiper fault

Featured Replies

The front windscreen wipers are on constant, even with switch in off position. The only way to stop them is to turn off engine but then they start as soon as engine is restarted. Tried disconnecting rear wiper motor, this worked but then wipers started again.

Any ideas where to look next.

Cheers.

I would have thought the first place to check is the switch, and after that the wiper motor.

Did you leave the rear wiper motor disconnected?

If not the fronts will most likely start again as soon as you reconnect it.

Yes, left disconnected.

Is the switch easy to get to? Is it just a case of removing the cowl around the steering column?

Cheers.

have you disconnected the rear loom behind the cd player?, also there is a relay for the wipers maybe thats stuck (cant remember which one it is now tho duh)

I disconnected it in the boot lid, behind the plastic pannel in the lid.

Does anyone know which realy to check?

Thanks.

The wiper control unit is noticeably larger than the other relays.

Would you replace the switch or the relay first?

Relay is probably easier as you will need to remove the steering wheel to change the switch. Check the connector block in the boot , behind the trim above the CD changer first though. There is a join in the washer pipe in the same place and this can leak too.

Thanks, I'll check those first....
