Transition between ASZ and BLT engines?

Featured Replies

Hi. I have been driving a pd100 for about 4 years now. Am looking to upgrade to a vRS but am not too keen with the BLT engine with the stutter and shorter gear ratios. I just wanted to know when they stopped making the ASZ engines. My dads got a 07 plate vRS but prefer the drive of the earlier models. Thanks.

I'm not totally sure but think your right with 2005. Don't forget though that it won't be black and white as an 05 plate could have been made at an earlier date. Also, the last of the ASZ cars had the shorter box. And the stutter of the BLT's is easilly sorted.

the asz and blt engine is exactly the same apart from the blt has euro4 compliant where as the asz is euro3, get one with an asz code as i have one and had no problems whatsoever

Thanks. Very concise but extremely useful info. Thanks.

But BLT's make marginally more power as standard from the factory!

The stutter isn't an issue unless you make it one!

I never notice it

The ASZ is Euro 3 compliant engine and does not suffer from a stutter caused by the EGR and the BLT is a nice tasty sandwich!

Sorry, someone had to make this comment. :giggle:

Hello fabia145re-map,

Had my red Fabia VRS in 2005 registered 30/06/2005. Car was manufactured approx 3 weeks prior to that according to salesman, as he was tracking it . This car has ASZ engine.

BLT hesitation is easily fixed, part costs about a £ and can be done in 10 mins.

Don't think it matters an awful lot... used to have an 03 Ibiza FR TDI with ASZ and that drove fine. Now I have an 06 vRS with BLT and this also drives fine, faster standard too, as said they push out more power!

All of them from March 04 had the shorter 6th gear ratio as well. As said, I really wouldn't let the engine code bother you. Just find the best overall car for you.

Cheers,

Steve
