VAG com shareware version

Just a quick question, what can you do with a shareware version of Vag-com and will it work on a normal non rosstech OBDII lead?

Go to the Ross-Tech website and view the Function Table The table will give you some idea of supported functions.

Will it work on a non-Ross-Tech lead? VAG-COM 409.1 and 311.2 both still work on non-dongle interfaces available from 3rd party vendors. All current versions of VCDS, the new name, require a dongle interface which is only obtainable from Ross-Tech or our distributors.

Don't mean to butt in on this post but I think my question is relevant to the subject.

Do you get any extra functionality when you buy the $99 license or are you still limited as shown in the function table?

I am only planning to use it on an 02 Fabia, so I suspect there is effectively little to no benefit in me getting the full latest version with the official cable, over an unofficial cable and the $99 (approx £65 GBP at time of posting) shareware license? (If the only benefit is can-bus support for newer cars then I'd rather save the cash for now).

Dunno if this helps, but ive managed to read and clear all DTC's using the the old VAGCOM software and an autonostics OBD2 lead so if your only after a code/service resetter, the shareware version should be fine.

$99 license will let the 409 version fully decode the DTCs for you, will allow you to view all measuring blocks, will allow you to exercise the output tests available, will allow you to run basic settings and adaptations, and last will allow you to do full coding of modules. It will not allow you to do some of the more advanced features we have released in the last 6 years since those advanced features are not in the version of the software you are using! ;)
