Xenons on Pre facelift VRS

Featured Replies

I was out in my VRS the other night with a friend who has an Audi.

He said they were no were near as bright and intense as his lights ( Dipped ). Are there different types of Xenon?

Cheap ones for the Skoda marque?? Hope not.

All the VAG Xenon capsules will be sourced from the same supplier, They do deteriorate with age though!

If factory fit, they should be the same brightness.

If hid conversion, I'm guessing you went for 6k's - style over actual usable light?

My 116,000 mile three year old L&K's xenons are utter crap compared to the ones on SWMBOs 19,000 mile vRS. Mine are roughly the same colour and brightness as a set of halogens and I am seriously thinking about replacing them. No more than 5000K as its then a waste of time using them at night.

The major difference with bi-xenons is the presence of a motorised shutter to control dipped and main beam. there might be some slight lens and beam cutoff differences but nothing that will alter the overall light output.

It seems that some xenons appear much 'bluer' than mine. Mine are OEM ones with the headlamp washers too.

OEM xenons have always run at a temperature of 4300K.

If you go above 5-6000K you are trading colour vs usable light. 10,000K lights are prettty much pointless as they are pretty much blue/purple.

I was following a brand spanking new E class last night and his xenons were much bluer (and brighter) than mine. Are OEMs now going with 4500 - 5000K? Or is it just my tired old xenons showing their age? :giggle:
