Glow Plugs/Oil change

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have had my Fabia Vrs now for a week been from Manchester to London and back and its running great..

I baught all the service items, but not the glow plugs the mileage is now on 60k, and is overdue a service by 1k.

Please can any of you advise if glow plugs are due at 60k?

The glow plugs light on the dash stays on for 2 seconds before start up then goes off and it does not struggle to start..

What mileage are you people replacing them at or recommending replacing them at? and is it an easy DIY job, I know theyr located just above the oil dipstick on the head. I

Is there any special tool or instructions to replace them?

& Finally how regular do you get the oil changed along with the filters?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Mate,

ASFAIK the glow plugs are not a service item - are replaced as due(my mrs works in a skoda dealership - me at BMW)

the light on at start up is normal when engine is cold - just wait til the light goes out and she should start 1st time.

have you bought cambelt etc for yours? that'll be due soon too!

i change oil on my cars every year regardless of mileage, but then I'm a fusspot!

Hope this helps

Si

Hi thanks for the reply yeh cambelt with tensioners with waterpump were replaced at 50k so thats one less worry..

Yearly sounds reasonable, on average im doing 14k a year, so for the turbos sake I would do it at 10k as from what I have read the oil pipes can become clogged if the oil turns thick or sludgy..

I am using Fusch Oil 5w-40 Fully synthetic is this oil known to be any good?

Change the oil and filter every 10K, do the air filter at the same time EVERY time (not to VAG's recommendations, which are something unrealistic like every 60K!)

Fuchs oil is very good (just make sure you use the correct VW spec for your engine)

As Si said only change the glow plugs when they are needed (becomes difficult to start from cold) as they are not a service item.
