seat belt issue Skoda Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi Friends

I have a 2001 Y reg Skoda Fabia Estate, the front driver side seat belt doesnt click in to the red buckle smoothly...i need to press the red buckle and push the seat belt in..has anyone faced the same problem ?

needless to say this also makes my seat belt alarm ding... while i can always disable tht, just wondering how to ensure the regular seat belt push and fit without holding the red buckle button down.

do i need to replace the buckle ?

any suggestions ? also where can this be done ? halfords?

Many thanks in advance..

Cheers

I can't find the reference, but I'm sure it's illegal and/or an MoT failure if a seatbelt can not be fastened one-handed. I don't know where to source parts though.

Sounds like it is either broken worn or has a foreign object stuck in it.

I would check out the price of a new buckle from Skoda dealer, and also some comparative prices from a few breakers. Jayfabia may have one available (http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/152596-aub-engine-value/)

You need to make sure you get the right one as you have seatbelt warning and I don't know if all Fabia have this feature.

I would DIY install it's not difficult, probably the seat will need to come out first and this needs the correct tool.

If you don't DIY then I expect you could ask any local motor mechanic / workshop to fit it, especially if you have already sourced a replacement part it wouldn't take long.

Hi guys! :hi:

Once again I chose to revive an old thread instead of starting a new one.

I seem to have suffered exactly the same issue as thread-starter, and it started all of a sudden, just earlier today.

Damnit, I just finished all four brakes on my 2003 Estate Comfort, and now this.

I found this object from eBay, which seems to be at a reasonable price.

However, item is from the a UK seller, hence probably a right-side driven car, and I'm not sure if the buckle setup is the same.

Yes, I have a left-side driven Fabia, and it would be tragic if I ordered this and it turned out to be different.

As you can see in my video, the buckle actually do lock, but you need to hold the red button down whilst attaching the seatbelt, or it won't go in.

Anyone with an idea about how to fix it? I did spray half a gallon of WD-40 on it, but nothing (but a terrible smell in the car) came out of this.

Could the buckle mechanism be dissembled, or do I need to take it out? Some say it's glued and cannot easily be taken apart.

Furthermore, do i necessarily need to take out the entire seat to be able to unscrew the buckle? It seems that way.

Unfortunately, it does indeed look that way, and all instructions tell me so.

Oh, by the way, is it true what they say that you need to disconnect the battery before removing the front seat?

Yes, I have side airbags in the front seats. They say that airbag light will go on otherwise.

However, I have ODB2 interface, couldn't I just let it be and just turn out those lights down through VCDS-Lite later on?

Tons of questions, and a blank line between each line of text. I'm apparently stuck here!

Cheers! :sun:

Just wanted to tell you guys, it's fixed. Really lucky, actually, yesterday night I went out and since all pointed to the whole buckle needing replacement I was not really caring at all. I took my apartment key and pressed it into every corner inside the buckle. I even turned the key inside the buckle, causing the plastic coating to painfully expand, even though it went back to normal shape after key was again in horizontal line with the gap. Hehe. I was really aggressive, and all of a sudden I saw/heard how something in the mechanism jumped. I removed the key and pressed the red button. Now, the lock was not moving away when red button being pressed, like it happens in the video above. Fingers crossed, and I applied the belt clip. It snapped into place perfectly, good as ever. I did the lock/unlock process circa 150 times thereafter, just to make sure my progress wasn't temporarily. No issues. I'm blessed. Cheers!
