exhaust over heating?

Featured Replies

I have recently put a universal pipercross venom induction kit on my car, there was a smaller pipe attached to the original setup which I believe to be an exhaust cooler. I had no way to fit this to the induction kit so just extended it to the front of the car. Now however I smell a rubbery smell from around the rear passenger door/back wheel. Its not the tyres they are cold, or the brakes I think the drum feels cold. I'm guessing its the exhaust (or its mountings to be exact)as I can hear it pinking as it cools.

Any Ideas if this is because that smaller pipe needs the engine sucking to generate enough airflow and I should get some t piece pipe; or more worryingly the engine/exhaust is getting a lot hotter because its running too lean. the temps stay normal no overheating (new sensor and thermostat).

The pipe you're talking about isn't to cool the exhaust...

It's to provide warm air to the intake to aid running when cold.

Oh right thanks, I thought cold air was good more dense. can I just remove that pipe altogether then?

Any other ideas why I might be smelling a rubber smell at around the back box area, I could still be running lean I suppose but don't want to believe it

You can remove the pipe yeah.. Cold air is more dense, it's purely to get some warm air into the intake for cold running conditions.

Cant help on the rubber smell im afraid.
