Headlight and Windscreen Washers

Featured Replies

I am having trouble with my washers. The headlight washer on the drivers side works fine, the other comes out but does not spray any water. The windscreen washer on the passengers side works fine but on the drivers side is very weak. After I use the washers there is a lot of water sprays up from the drivers side headlight leading me to think that there is a leak or a blockage somewhere. Is there any way to pull out the headlight washers to see if there is a blockage or is this a dealer job?

Do you have both windscreen washer jets working?

Your problem sounds like the tubing within the bonnet for the windscreen washer jets has come undone, hence the leaking from the driver's side headlamp?

The fan type nozzles VAG fit are not suited to hard water - if you live in a hard water area and use tap water in the reservoir, they will gradually scale up and stop working properly.

I noticed this about 6 months after getting my Superb. I emptied the reservoir and used rain water (+ alcohol based additive in the Winter). After about another 6 months, all nozzles are working normally again - the soft water will gradually shift the scale.

rotodiesel.

The headlight washers are pressure activated iirc on the Superb, so it could be that the pipe blew off (oooerrrrr) maybe it froze up badly at some point and it caused the pipe to let go when washing the screen with the lights on?

Somebody mentioned a while back about the water from their condensor tumble dryer, that works a treat, the Mrs always does the washing at the weekend so when the resevoir fills, I go and top up my washer bottle with that along with some vag screen wash .....smells lovely as well :)

If I were you I would pop open your bonnet and then at the back of the bonnet, looking in from the engine bay, you will see one oval hard plastic bung by each windscreen washer jet, pop this out of the bonnet and then pop your washer jet out of the bonnet, if you can pull the one side without moving the other then you will find the 'T' section of the piping has come undone. You may need to waggle it around to see where it is but you will find it and it's just a case of putting the tube back on the 'T' piece............
