ESP warning light - but nothings changed?

Featured Replies

Hi to all

Although I have only just joined this site, I have been a Fabia VRS owner for the past 2 years, and I love it! The only thing that could tempt me to change is the Octavia VRS.

I have been reading some old posts on ESP warning lights this morning, mine has been coming on for a while now and so I thought I'd do a bit of research. The difference is though, everybody else seems to have a recognisable difference, ie the power steering stops working or at least gets heavier, I haven't noticed any difference whatsoever.

The same warning light comes on after about 5 mins driving, maybe 10mins but it seems to be after an amount of time rather than distance as it will do it on the motorway, but also if I'm stuck in a queue. It started about 6 months ago, occasionally coming on, then coming on but going off again, and now it comes on every journey. It has never been on from starting though. It did feel to me (as others have said before) that it seemed to start when the weather turned a bit colder.

I have never noticed any difference to the drive though, I have even thrown it round corners with more gas on than would be advisable to try and feel any difference, but theres nothing. I did get some tyres put on over a year ago now (they have since been changed) which I felt were less grippy than they should be considering they were brand new on. And the light did start to appear when these tyres were getting towards needing a change. I have wondered if this may have had any affect.

As I say though it feels a bit different to others as i haven't noticed any change, and this flickering headlight thing doesn't happen either. Because of this I haven't been to a garage with it (for starters they would have to sit in the car for 10 mins before I could prove the light comes on!), there is no warrantly left on it.

Hope somebody has an idea of what's wrong, I can't swap for an Octavia if mines got a fault!

The first thing that you need to do is get the car scanned for any fault codes.
