ABS issue WIth Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

I have a 04 VRS and I have had it now for 13 months, in July My ABS light came on and I was told front right sensor, it took them 4 days and 2 sensors and another wheel bearing for the lights to go off!! in December the lights lit again this time it was front left and wiring loom, last Friday yep you guessed it the lights lit again! took it back and it was front right sensor but the diagnostic was also saying that there was no communication with ABS?? also the the wiring loom was cut and taped, the garage advised me to just have sensor replaced but when I went to collect it they told me "slight water ingress into engine bay" today 7 days later almost to the minute the lights have lit again! Garage are saying they cannot see it but think its probably the water in the loom issue!!

Do Fabia VRS have problems with ABS or is it just mine?

Thank you

It's yours and/or the garage I think. Whereabouts are you and what garage do you use?

Hi Ken,

First time to a back street garage but december and last week to Hayselden Skoda in Doncaster

Water can get into the loom if the plenum chamber drain holes get blocked. Also the ABS controller is bolted to the bottom of the ABS motor housing, if you drive through a very deep puddle at speed, it is possible for water to get inside the controller if the seal is past it's best.

Sounds like an intermittent fault, and garage is changing sensors and clearing the fault code, only to have it return again.

But to answer your question, no it's not a common issue.

Thanks Moggy  I am hoping it is just the taped loom its a little depressing now as it seems my car should have a warning light permantly lit at the moment lol, I am annoyed with the garage as they told me about the loom After they repaired the sensor when they could have fixed them both together now I have to take more time off work while they fix it when they can!! wont be going back there lol

Glad to be of help. I understand peoples despair with cars at times,.but believe me, 90% of the problem are garages. Luckily, I have an excellent dealer, and a brilliant indy as well. I also do a lot of DIY repairs, and at least know that [a] it's been done right, or if it doesn't work only me to blame.

update on My prevoius post I have posted elsewhere the issues are because water has damged my main engine wiring loom and it now requires a new one at some astronomical cost, and a huge SLA for repair 6/8 WEEKS!! skoda have no car to give me and have just left me floundering around borrowing cars ETC, I am very confused and think I am going to take further action as looking around SKODA are fully aware of this fault and its not at all uncommon and also VW seem to be having this issue with certain models, the garage have spoken to Skoda and askd for some goodwill towards the cost and Skoda have agreed to pay 50%, it would have been 100% but the car has not been serviced by a Skoda dealer and does not have the original invoices. I do not think this is fair as the loom is not a service requirement but does seem to be a design issue, so the car is not fit for purpose and in a couple of years I could be looking at having to repair it again!!! I am speaking to Trading standards to obtain advise from them I will let you know

Not good. Doesn't happen that often, but it's a pig of a job to replace the wiring loom. I suppose 50% goodwill isn't too bad on a 6 year old car.

Yeah Moggy, I thought that as well 50% was not that ba but I have just spent 850 on new abs looms, sensors and anti roll; bar all done at Skoda while i owned it. The loom is not a service part s it should not matter where its serviced? we will see when they finally find me a car!!! thats also disgusting they should have found me one B 4 but they have me over a barell as mine will not go!!
