Adding optional extras after order taken?

Featured Replies

Hi

I ordered my vRS TDi CR on the 29th Jan and have been given an aproximate delivery date of mid April.

Having had a look around the forum I am thinking about adding xenon lights and auto dimming mirror. I can't get hold of the dealer today so I was wondering if anyone on here had any experience of adding optional extras to cars 4 weeks or so after the order was taken.

Is it possible?

Will it push my build date back even further?

Many thanks

I depends how far through the build process the car is.

For instance, I wanted to add Maxi-dot a week or so after I placed the order but it was too late.

You can only try.

I'm almost certain it will be too late. The only option would be for the dealer to place a fresh order for you. They normally don't mind doing this as they should be able to easily offload your original order within the system to someone else assuming it's not too bespoke.

Hi,

I have just added Xenons after my order and was told that a new computer system allows changes after the order has been submitted as long as it no shorter than a month before build. However I do not know if that is a Skoda computer system or my dealers as there garage is pretty new.

Good Luck

Thanks for the replies guys.

Not too worried about the xenons as they are pricey and I can live without them but I'll be gutted about the dimming rear view mirror with rain sensor.

Anyone know if it can be retro fitted? I imagine the price would be ridiculous but you never know!

I added xenons 2 weeks after ordering and the dealer also told me that changes could be made up until approx 4 weeks before build date, so you could be just in time. :)

You might get lucky if your build date hasnt been allocated yet. get onto your dealer first thing Monday to see. My guess is your too late though!

I really wouldn't worry too much about them. The rain sensor is excellent half the time and maddening the other half - they have a complete mind of their own. I often resort to the flick wipe in conditions it can't cope with. I wouldn't miss it at all.

As for the auto dimming RVM. Well, honestly, how difficult is it to put your hand up and move the dipping mechanism? And, if you think about it, how often do you need it?

Its a classic example of a modern device which just isn't as good as you are at doing what its supposed to. It adds nothing to the sum of driving happiness in my umble hopinion.

You should be fine, I did similar a few weeks after ordering, the worse case is you will lose your place in the build queue and your delivery date may slip.

My order and dates:

Ordered @ Dealers- 18/07/07

Build Week 36 - 03/09/07

Left Czech Factory - 16/09/07

UK Delivery Grimsby - 26/09/07

Dealer Delivery - 27/09/07

Delivery Date - 01/10/07

The Xenons I'd be gutted about but the rest I'd leave and spend it on fuel.

Are the xenons really that good?! Never had them before but they are the best part of £600 with the VAT reduction which I wasn't sure was money well spent!!!

Its a personal thing, but I'd never buy another car without them. If you've never had them then I'd test drive a car with them, you cant fail to be impressed.

WHS, personally they are top of my list of extras and a must have on all my Cars now going forward.

Auto wipe is maddening if you leave it on and when killing the ignition....When you come to restart the car the control module gets somewhat confused, try putting back to neutral and then when you start the car again put into auto mode! As you said it's only a move of the hand, as with manual auto dimming rear view mirror................ ;)

Well, I've been told that I can still add them but they are asking for the full price for the options i.e. £720 for Xenons and £155 for the mirror & rain sensor.

I know that the current VAT offer includes options but the dealer doesn't want to give me the discount!

If your not happy, cancel the order, your entiltied to the offer same as everyone else, there just trying to sc**w more cash out of you!

You CAN add, no problem. My understanding is anywhere up until and prior to build week, however, once in build week no way. If you do add options it WILL put the build week out, but only by a few weeks, say four max. And this gets adjusted anyway.

I added silver roof rails to my order which had build week 10, this pushed it out to 14, checked a couple of weeks agon and it's now, or was then at 13...........So it's all change.

If I were you I would argue this with the dealer, if no satisfaction speak to Skoda UK......

Is that right about the options being included in the VAT free offer? My dealer said they weren't which seems to accord with the literature. I'll be well cheesed off if they should have been.

Sarge.

Yup options are included in the VAT free offer - you shouldn't have been charged VAT on any of the options, assuming they were added at the same time as you ordered the car.

Many on here inc me have had our 15% off and in some cases some more.

I spent 2k+ on options so I am glad I got the VAT off!

Managed to get both Xenons and mirror added but don't know how long it will delay my order by until the dealer updates my order tomorrow.

Got the Xenons for £575 which I was pretty chuffed with given the fact that the list price is £720 and even with VAT off they would be £612.

Thanks all for the info. re. the options and VAT. I'll be on to the dealer first thing in the morning.

Had another look at the Skoda UK web site and it looks to me as though my dealer is in fact correct, which means anyone getting the VAT off their options has got an extremely good deal.
