Fabia 16v cam belt tensioner failure

Featured Replies

Just thought i would mention about above problem.

This failed on my 16v at 53K. Cambelt change not until 60K.

VW have been recalling Lupo, Polo and Golf models with the 1.4 16v engine for sometime to replace the cambelt roller/tensioner for this very problem.

Wonder why Skoda havent?

The cambelt interval for this engine on SEAT and VW is 40k.

Mine went at around 28k, the day after Brunters....

Warranty job, thankfully! :)

I also have 16V, 100 BHP engine, 50.000 km now... I hear some whistle from the engine recently...

VW recalled 1.4 16V 75 BHP engines, or also 100 BHP ?

I was visiting Skoda/VW dealers, they told me to come at 90.000 km for first check, some of them did not even listen to the engine, or check something :(

At this address there are 3 sound files with the noise of my engine

First 2, idle speed, recording near cambelt/tensioner, third one is recording during acceleration, holding the microphone on the top of the engine..

Is that whistle normal ?

Thank you very much

REFUND ALERT?

I had a tensioner roller on my Lupo 1.4 16v 100bhp (same engine as 100bhp Fabia) start to break up (mileage 22k - 3.5 years old) . . . Luckily the belt didn't snap . . . it cost me

I know my friends 1.4 16V MK4 Golf was recalled for the tensioner work.
