170PD Vrs poor running

Featured Replies

Hi, Got an issue with my car being hesitant at low revs and not 'picking up' smoothly. Also tickover seems to change between 800 and 1000rpm without any apparent reason?

Problem is not consistent with outside air conditions / cold engine ect.

Anyone else had this?

Car is a 56 plate with 35k on the clock.

Cheers, Paul.

If it is not consistent it seems that you noticed the DPF being regenerating.

If regenerating the pickup will be a little hesitant, especially at lower revs (regenerating process occurs between about 2000 and 3250 rpms. Driving at higher revs will stop the process).

If you notice this, the engine will sound "heavier", a bit more rumbling than normally.

To regenerate, drive the car at a constant engine speed of about 2-2500 rpms in 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th. The higher the speed, the longer it will take (because the DPF needs a high temperature to regenerate).

Regenerating will take place every couple of hundred to one thousand km, depending on how much city driving you do.
