Headlight upgrade?

Featured Replies

Hi all, havnt been on here for a while now. Now a proud owner of a mk1 VRS. Have had the car about 6 months. Anyways i am after fitting some upgrade headlights such as aftermarket units which allow use of hid's. I find the stock halogen lights very poor, i have fitted uprated phillips bulbs but there still not very good. Can't find any oem projector units which were fitted to some of the mk1 models. Can anyone please give me some help on this issue?

Thanks

ISTR that L&K 130s had Xenon dip plus halogen mains as standard.

As Ken said either look out for a PD130 L&K or a 1.8T L&K (or even a VRS WRC edition) all these came with Xenons as standard and the Elegances and VRS's had Xenons as an option. Either look in the local breakers yards or keep an eye out on ebay. There are part numbers floating round somewhere on this forum if you want to buy the light units and all the bits you need from Skoda but if I remember rightly they were something like £500-600 new from the dealers

To stay legal though, you'd need to retrofit the sensors on the suspension and headlight washers too in addition to the projector lens xenon headlight units. Not cheap!

Wouldnt bother with that tbh, mr plod deosnt seem to ever check/care about hid headlights. I had aftermarket hid kit on my mk4 golf for the 8 months of owning it and didnt get questioned once about it. Its a shame there isnt a company which do aftermarket projector headlamps like they do for the mk4 golf etc.

The other issue with using Octy xenon headlamp units is I don't know if the levelling would be plug and play with a manual levelling wheel in the cabin? The levelling motors on the xenons seem to be much faster reacting so I'd guess that they are a different system . . . I might be wrong though.:)

Best person to ask is NinjaVRS, I think his set-up is genuine Skoda HID units, but without the autolevelling, they are wired into the manual levelling controller which makes them legal (they have to be adjustable whether manually or automatically)

WOW!! I have just fitted a pair of Phillips Blue vision Headlight bulbs to my Octy and cannot believe the difference! For £15 with a pair of 5w sidelight bulbs these are a steal, and I am left wondering why it has taken me five and a half years to upgrade....... :wonder:

I have these fitted and they were better than stock bulbs but are still pretty rubbish in camparison to my mk4 golf headlights.
