Buying a 1.4L Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I need some help, I was going to buy a 2006 Skoda Octavia 1.9Tdi but now am having second thoughts as I don't want to pay the 600 a year tax and higher insurance. I can buy a 1.4L cheaper but the stuff

ive read on it says the engine is too weak. What im wondering is this true or is it for people who want and are into powerful cars. I will be using the car for a short drive to the train station daily and at the weekends for trips around the city (Dublin)

and down the country for fishing, golf etc.

I can avail of a scrappage scheme for another while so I hope someone can help. Any thoughts on the 1.4L for my circumstances would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Ray

£600 a year tax?! the 1.4 tsi is a great engine and is certainly not too weak.

Thanks Mate, 600Euro to tax a 1.9Tdi over here, the 1.4tsi in short supply on second hand market

I guess if you're looking at circa 2006 cars you're referring to the old 1.4MPI engine though, not the TSI.

Thanks for that info, Whats your opinion of that engine?

Had one in my mk3 golf and was slow in that! Had a 1.4 Mk4 golf as a courtesy car and even though it was a 16v it was still the slowest thing ever!

I would go for at least 100bhp for that size car.

I think it was for fleet buyers to give to staff who they didn't like, courtesy cars that would be too slow to crash and possibly random old people who just didn't give damn and just wanted the cheapest octavia the dealers could sell them.

74BHP :giggle:
