Your insurance policy cover....

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just a quick question and a heads up for a few of you maybe.

Ive been ringing around for insurance quotes and have come up with a few issues; mainly relating to the Panoramic glass cover not being included under the vehicles standard glass replacement policy and a couple regarding the Columbus.

Re the Columbus. Some policies have a maximum amount they will pay out if the stereo unit is stolen from the vehicle - £500 seemed common but I was surprised by this as the Columbus (which costs around £1300) is a factory option and not some aftermarket installation! :S Im awaiting a call back to confirm this but this is what the broker is suggesting will be the case.

More of a concern is that with the Panoramic glass sunroof, many policies exlude this from the standard £60 charge and protection of ncb that Ive got used to during the last few years of motoring. It would have to go through as a full 'damage to roof' claim on most policies that I asked details of!!

Zurich were one of the few that seemed to be suggesting that their policy covered it for just £60 but their quote came out at double everyone else's!!!

Is it just me; would most of you not expect the glass roof to be covered under the glass breakages policy?

If any of you have checked the above facts on your policies and have a tick next to each one could you please let me know which insurance company it was with.

Many thanks

Lee

Lee, I tend to agree with the insurance companies on this. I would not see the panoramic roof as part of the normal glass. I suspect it is quite expensive and I am not sure how easy it is to replace in the roof. With a windscreen for example it is very easy to pop in and out.

I think it is good for you to highlight this but I personally would not expect it to be covered in the same way as other windows in the car.

I agree with Harvey1512 about the roof to be honest. I do think the factory fit stereo should be covered though.

Re the roof. I can see what you are both saying. I think you should be more wary of it if you had a high excess and unprotected ncb. Interesting thatZurich are including it but they are obvioulsy allowing for this with their inflated quote!

The broker phoned me on the way home; Highway (who were the cheapest at £460 for both of us fully comp (!!) :smirk: WILL cover the Columbus as long as:

It is fitted at the factory.

Noted as an option on the sales invoice

Declared to them as an option when taking out the policy.

Is that a good price for North London?

I'm in Merseyside, age 55, my bride is 52. Monster parked on street, £300 excess cos its a 4x4 with potected no claims. Includes legal costs and hire car £297.91.

Yup, its the cheapest Ive had and I was expecting it to be more in all honesty. Mines the 1.8TSi so higher insurance group to strat with. Full NCB and protected and done as street parking too.

It is important to get your factory options listed on your insurance because otherwise insurers can get away with paying out for a standard spec car. You are insuring your exact spec so that is what needs to be reflected on your policy......
