Bump Strips Colour Coding

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I was thinking of getting my black bump strips painted green to match the car has anyone here has had this done - what sort of costs are we talking about?

Thanks

I would go the DIY route. Should be easy enough :)

save time and agro mate. take them off!!!!!!!!

My friend Is a sprayer & he painted mine for me a couple of years ago & did an excellent job. He can still do them & I did price them up for a member who Is local to me, but I can't remember what he quoted, but It wasn't that much. I take It your not local to Chesterfield.

The side door strips will probably need replacing after you take them off unless your super carefull as they will end up bending/distorting when you peel them off. Yes you could leave the door strips off, but It It takes away that bit of protection from the inconsiderate gits who use your car as door stops when getting out In car parks.

Should be an on-car DIY proposition with a few old newspapers, a big roll of 2" masking tape, and rattle cans of plastic primer (not ordinary metal primer), colour coat and laquer.

iam not being funny but do you always park next to another octavia then do you?

i dont know about you but apart from another octavia, the bump styrips on the doors are at different heights on every single car ive ever parked next to. iam dam sure that the curve over the rear wheel on the back door will never hit a bump strip ether, no matter what you park next to!!!!

Just get them taken off and clean up the sides of the octy!!!!! its going to get "car park" dents in it, no matter what you do!!!!

just my thoughts and a bit of backing up for the complete removal.

Has anyone had problems with the paint work under the bump strips?

I've seen quite a few posts over on the Fabia Forum where the strips have been removed only to reveal the paint lifting in little dots underneath.

Its my view on the subject.

Lets just say I've had to touch up a couple of gouges taken out of my painted bump strips. God knows what the door would have looked If I didn't have the strips on. Yes, I know what you are saying, but they do offer some protection.

have to agree with anyrew on this one they look brillaint off and there not that good anyway as he showed me today.

open rear door onto other car and the bump strip stops feck all lol

so for that reason im out

iam so glad that ive convinced you to take them off. you know it makes sense!!!!

you know it looks better on a nice, bright coloured car!!!

andy done

Take the strips off if your doing a diy job. give them a good cleaning with soapy water and a scotch brite (grey) a rub of degreaser a good plastic primer and then apply your colour coat. real easy job

Was thinking of colour coding these myself and didn't consider the removal option. Do they come off easily then and do they leave any holes to fill?

they are just stuck on. no holes to fill and paint.

a piece of fishing makes light work of the double sided sticky tab that they use to stick them on with.

iam sure westallc will agree with that one.

andy done

good man. does it look better now? i cant wait to see it now.

yep needs a bit of a polish witht he little colour difference if i was being anal about it but looks good buddy B) B)

if you want to do it right, take them off and sand them down until they're smooth... if you just paint them you still see the texture (little dots) of the strips which I didn't wanted

don't underestimate it though, it's a lot of work but it pays off when you see the result

I had the painting done because it was in the bodyshop for something else anyway but you can do it yourself, I just painted my mirror myself and it looks perfect. Just get the colour from a local Skoda dealer, they sell small spray-can's with colour and varnish

cheers

You can buy a glass blank from Venom motorsport.

I have one on mine:

The back end does look much cleaner with the wiper and badges.
