Octy 2 TDi PD 105 DSG - Tuning & mods?

Featured Replies

Had my Octy 2 TDi 105 PD DSG for 12m now and love it BUT...... would like a bit more ooooomph occasionally without sacrificing economy round town. I'd love a VRS TDi DSG but my bank account says NO and whilst 170bhp would be nice, a 20 - 30% boost would be fine. Anyone got any experience of tuning this engine, a remap seems the way to go, or are there options I have missed? Anything I need to worry about with the DSG box or will it all be OK as long as I keep up the servicing (car has 90k on the clock and I have switched to 10k oil changes - just can't get my head round a car doing almost 20k on the same oil) Looking at R-Tech for a remap as the reviews all seem to be good - anyone got anything bad to say about them?

Also, stock Classic interior is OK but I love the smell of leather in the mornings (wife has a Mk5 Golf GTi), how easy is an interior swap and where to look? - everything on eBay is for the Mk1 which I guess won't fit without serious hassle - will the seats from other cars on the A5 platform (MK5 Golf, A3, Seats etc) fit?

I have the same engine. I'm getting it remapped with chippedireland in a couple of weeks time to somewhere around 145 bhp with a rolling road before and after to confirm. The guy doing the remap has a VW Caddy with the same engine running a 170 bhp map through a DSG gearbox with no problems. I wouldn't risk a map that extreme on my car though. He reckons the 5 speed manual wouldn't take that power anyway, but a DSG will.

Because diesel engines only burn the fuel they need rather than requiring a minimum amount of fuel in the cylinder to get a stable combustion front from the spark plug like petrol engines, if you don't use the power you get the same economy as before. In some cases you get better economy because the torque increase in the remapped engine allows you to hold higher gears at lower speeds.

One thing I'll be making sure of is that the remap doesn't step up the power too suddenly. The PD engine has a noticeable power/torque spike around 2000 rpm anyway, but if that's exaggerated by the remap, the car will break traction instead of accelerating smoothly.

About 140 BHP would be right, just treat the clutch with respect :)

He has DSG, he doesn't have much say in how the clutch gets treated :)

All the better then :)

Keep looking on ebay,I got mine from there, the seats from the hatch will fit the estate and visa versa, there are 4 bolts on the front seats, and only a screw and seat belt anchor to undo on the rear

do not put the key in the ignition when removing or refitting the front seats and make sure the airbag cables are connected before you bolt them back down and switch on, right in the middle of the rear seat getting into the boot to see it, undo the screw and the clamp will come off then drop one side down and wiggle the seat back towards the centre repeat with the other side, the rear seat based just unclip

The seats out of the VRS will also fit

OK - looking at R-Tech for a remap - they reckon they can take me to 150bhp which should be fun. I've also bagged meself a pair of leather seats from an A3 from eBay, just need to get busy with the socket set tomorrow....
