Advice on ABS warming lights

Featured Replies

Hi three

Apologise now if my terms are not the correct terms.

This question relates to a Skoda Octavia Ambiente TDI 2004 Model. Diesel/ Estate.

I have noticed that an ABS light lights up when I start the car first thing in the morning and then disappears after a few seconds. I read in the manual that this is just the sign that it is doing a test.

However I have noticed this does not happen again throughout the day when I start the car again. I am therefore worried that there could be something wrong.

My parther recently took the car in to have it looked at after it making a weird scraping noise. The local garage told us it had a leaking rear brake cylinder and so we had this replaced and to be on the safe side we also had the other one replaced. And also the brake pads as these were close to needing replacing.

I can't recall if the light exhibited the same symptoms before this work. I guess I am a bit more paranoid about the brakes now.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal behaviour for this light and if not then any ideas what it is a sign of?

Mine comes on at every start....

So does mine, but the warning light should illuminate if there's a detected fault, or a recorded permanent fault in the ECU memory. If you're really worried, have a look at the VAG-Com forum for someone near you who can check the ECU memory.
