EPC light has come on

Featured Replies

My EPC light came on as I left for home tonight.

The car seems to be running ok. It's a petrol '06 vRS.

I've checked the brake lights and they're ok.

From what I've read so far, it could be that my ECU needs flashing ?

How likely is it that the dealership are going to come up with that as a solution if I go to them ?

I'm thinking of going to my local garage for diagnosis. I'm not sure what they've got, but if it's a generic scanner, will it pick up the problem ?

Is there any way I can determine what the fault might be without having to plug it in ?

I've only had it since last summer, so have some kind of warranty if necessary...

Also, I can't seem to work out which is the appropriate system to get from Ross-tech if I decide to go down that route. Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

The exhaust gas light has come on too now, so I'm guessing it's more likely a sensor has died ?

For the warranty, it seems I'm going to have to pay for the diagnosis, and then put the car into a Nationwide autocentre to have it repaired.

Makes me somewhat nervous, but if it means getting it done for nothing I suppose I shouldn't complain...

I bought some days ago one VAG code reader from one guy in London (using ebay), the one I bought is named T55e, and I can tell u that it is worth what I paid for it.

Try to locate one of those in ebay and check ur car with it, mine was placed in Spain in exactly 5 days (bought on Monday, received on Friday), I was IMPRESSED.

Check this link http://cgi.ebay.es/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290404248200&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

This will probably be a missed recall on your vehicle. Ask your local Skoda dealer if all the recalls have been performed for your car. There is an ECU software update which should cure your problem.

Is that something that only the dealer will be able to tell me ?
