Running with MAF off

Featured Replies

As per title im runnin with the maf off apart from less mpg what other drawbacks are there and how long should i run it for before putting it back on.

why would you want to do that? plus the car will be dreadfully underpowered and slow!!!!

Normally do it just to check if the MAF is working or not, if you are getting rough running or a lumpy idle.

When the MAF is unplugged the ECU uses preset values, which is not ideal as it is basically guessing how much air is coming in, but if this means the engine runs smoother then it's time to find a replacement MAF and fit it.

I put a panel filter in earlier in the week and forgot to plug the MAF back in, got a CEL light come up so I suppose that's another side effect of running with the MAF unplugged.

you will have more probs and will get more codes due to over fueling......why did you un plug the maf? if the car ticks over better when the maf is un plugged doesnt meen your maf is gone as i had that prob and turn out to be a air leak...but could be your maf

Where was your air leak? How did you find it?

Yep, definitely new MAF time!

i had that prob with maf so i charged it and it happened again so i took it to awesome gti and the secound time it was not the maf it was the claw pipoe and the pipe that goes in bitween the inlet manifold as they were leaking ...but yours will probably be your maf..
