Have VW spotted what we knew all along?

Featured Replies

Not specific to Superbs, but they get a mention in the article, and the most likely model to be affected if the article turns out to be right.

This story in today’s Spiegel (a serious German paper) basically says that there are growing concerns at VW Group, indeed so much so that they have just “retired” the current Skoda boss Reinhard Jung. The reason given that meant that he had to go, is that Skoda’s relatively low margin cars are taking sales from higher margin VWs. And Skoda (as we all know), who were supposed to just focus on the “entry model” market for the VW group, are now beating VW in auto tests (they use the Superb v Passat as an example.)

What has tipped this over the edge is that previously Skoda’s profits were very good, however since 2008 they have declined greatly relative to VW.

Now they think with VW-Chief Winterkorn focusing his attention on Skoda, the costs will reduced and the model range will be better aligned with Volkswagen. The successor of the Skoda Superb will probably be significantly smaller, and have less leather in the interior.
