VRS brake pads

Featured Replies

Had my 30k service done in January, the dealer told me the front brake pads were worn, by 70%

Im a bit handy with tools so yesterday i decided to change em myself. Only when I pulled the old pads out they looked pretty thick. In fact there was 10mm left on all the pads.

Is this "worn" by skoda standards??

Cheers guys

Sounds like they were after more business.

"Worn" - by dealer or MOT standards is a set of pads they dont expect to last till the next service.

I have had this plenty of times, tw4ts looking for a fast buck :(

Is this 10 mm thickness of pad material or does it include the backing plate? According to the Haynes manual, new pads (inc backing plate) are 18.6 mm thick and the minimum of 7 mm (2 mm on pad).

Just measured the new front ones, they're 13mm.

However the rear ones are very worn - clearly the dealer mistakening wrote "front" when he should have written "rear" on the service notes

Yep, new pads should have 13.6 mm of material on it (if you hadn't worked it out), so at 10 mm they have only worn down by 20%.

I think the rear pads are a pain to change as you need a special tool to wind the calliper back. There is a good pic thread in the Fabia Guides section.
