Octavia Elegance 1.4 TSI vs Superb Ambition 1.4 TSI

Featured Replies

Today I was at my local dealer asking for Octavia Elegance 1.4 TSI which I ordered in february, how does it look with delivery and while I was waiting I was browsing the Superb stuff. I ordered Octavia Combi, so was looking at Superb Combi. And liked it. A lot! :) And what I found out was, the Octavia (with added equipement) I ordered is priced at 21.000€ and for 22.500€ I get Superb with almost the same equipement. The dealer said, if you really like Superb more, we can sell your Octavia and order you a Superb !?

So my question is, is superb (other than size) much better car than Octavia, worth spending another 1.500€ (£1300) for the same equipement?

Think I would go the Superb route at those prices :)

Is the engine suitable in the bigger car?

The new Superb has got a really good write-up in the British press.

The interior space is amazing, especially the rear leg room. However, the reason why I like the Octavia is its size (and the vRS model). The Superb is just too big for my needs.

I was in a Skoda Dealer today and saw the Superb Estate alongside the Octavia Estate. It is truly massive and probably represents excellent value for money, but in the UK at any rate its sheer size would be a disadvantage in town/city use or anywhere where space is a premium.

I agree, the size is the only thing that puts my decision on changing to Superb on hold. It's not that kind of an disantvantage that parking would be so much harder, but it's a question of, do I really need a car so big... And yes, with Octavia should be easier to find a parkplace :)

For a family with two kids I suppose, Octavia would be big enough ... So size on a side, is it really so much better car (then octavia) as written on tests?

That's my second question. Has anybody been driving Superb 1.4 TSI?

I was in a multi-story car park yesterday watching a Superb owner (not estate) attempting to squeeze his car into the tiny spaces. He had 3 attempts before giving up.

If you need a HUGE estate car then the Superb Estate looks like a winner

I'd say it's worth it only if you need the space. The Superb Combi is obviously a great car - cheaper than a Volvo or a Mondeo, let alone a Mercedes estate, from all of which it'll gain sales. But the Octavia is very roomy and it's lighter then the Superb. The 1.4 engine has been well reviewed in the Octavia but it can't be a ball of fire in somethong as big as a Superb.

Skoda should add a 7-seat option to the Superb Combi. There'd still be room for luggage, unlike in, say, a Zafira or Touran.

Looking at numbers, Superb is 27cm longer than Octavia and Octavia with side mirrors is actually 1cm wider. So It is bigger, but on the paper it doesn't look that much bigger ...?

About the 1.4 TSI, if Octavia performs good with it, and it weights 1285kg vs Superb 1420kg which is 135kg difference, so as I understand it is the same as if in Octavia there were 3 passengers or 1 passenger in Superb, it should perform the same or are there other facotrs?
