I imagine trying to use the front fogs as day running lights is a breach of current UK/European law. As they are fog lights they are supposed to be used in fog.

In the UK using a foglight other than in fog is against the law, its also against the law in germany where the penalties are much higher. The beam pattern of the light is all wrong and they cause major dazzling issues for oncoming motorists.

There was a chap at the recent JKM RR day with a heavily modded Golf VW** RED B) that had set up his front fogs as DRL's. They were correctly calibrated and spaced etc.

I understand that he had an official VOSA document stipulating that they were DRL's which he kept in the car to "discuss" with any law officers that thought otherwise.

You can use your foglights as DRL

However you have to have a unit that houses 2 bulbs (or 3 if it has cornering function)

The position of the DRL bulb in the reflector housing plus it's reduced brightness compared to Fog lighting (23w iirc compared to 55w fog) make it "Legal" to use.

This is the case with Robin's Golf (pictured above)
