Slightly bent front offside steel wheel

Featured Replies

Here in NI we have serious road quality issues, and my wife managed to thump the Octy through a sizeable pothole last week resulting in the loss of the wheeltrim and a slight buckle in the front offside wheel. The damage isn't huge, but there's a noticeable bend at the edge of the steel rim. Does anybody have any experience of repairing these wheels and if so, any handy hints? The tyre (Pirelli P6000) thankfully seems to be unaffected which is great because i cant afford to put a new tyre on just at the mo.

Does the wheel still hold air? If so, you should be able to straighten out the bent lip (which is mostly only there to make changing tyres on the wheel easier) with a hammer.

aye....seems no problem there, a bit of air knocked out after the pothole, but is holding pressure fine. Do i need to heat the wheel at all, or would just hitting it with a hammer (and something to stop damage) do ok ?

Used to use a mallet on my old Peugeot when I got a dent, of which I got many on the crappy roads round here.

hammer is fine cold. I recommend various punches and other flat instruments aswell to get it back in shape, and a can off matte black spray paint
