'98 Skoda Felicia clunking sound by the front right side tire...

Clonking on the right side, by the tire

Right side front damper bowl is sitting around a few millimeters (not even a centimeter) above the tire, contact is made when in a hill, or taking a turn where the right side goes downward, or hits a hole on the road...

what i know is the right side front damper is done, but what the hell is that clonking sound i hear?

i've heard it in other similar cars, such as very late 90's to early 00's VW's....

Please enlighten me on this problem....

thank youuuu

Spring seat broken?

Almost certainly, sight unseen. OP should check the sticky posts at the top of the forum NOW!!

I just checked the above thread...it was helpful-ish

i was outside just about 20 minutes ago, going to recycle some bottels (had 4 garbage bags of em) so as i was driving downtown the spring shell (the thing under the spring itself) decided to go down the extra few mm's that were seperating the spring cup/shell from the right front tire...wich made a little noise...so i just finished getting the bottles to where i was getting them (hardle half a mile from where i started hearing the sound) and when done i took it to the next garage, wich as around 450 meters from the place where i went to get the bottles recycled....and the nice man there said he'd order me a new damper....so i guess right now i'm a happy-ish camper, that is until i get the bill, this monday :)

Bump?

there is a clonking/clunking sound by the right front tire, and i doubt it's the damper/spring thingy...although it may be possible....

Why bump? Did you not have it looked at? It's fairly easy to see if it is the spring seat having corroded off - have you checked this?

have i checked if the thing is corroding away?

yes, it was, or had corroded away...the bowl thing was laying on the tire...

but im talking about some clonking sound that had been going on for a year or two...

I would say that you now have a bigger problem than a clonk that you have had for some time

I would say that you now have a bigger problem than a clonk that you have had for some time

so you're sticking to it being the damper then?

Have you had the damper (and therefore the spring seat) replaced yet?

so you're sticking to it being the damper then?

It is just my observation that you now have collapsed suspension, so fixing first that would supercede investigating any other issues. This may also sort the clonk noise. :wonder:

In the same way that having a flat tyre would probably be more important to fix than a cracked wheel trim?

just remebered that fixing the damper seemed to have fixed the problem 0.o....

for how long exactly have i been hearing that sound? i'd guess over a year and a half...but for someone who regularily checks out if there's anything wrong with his car...weird to see that the damper thing was working fine....a year ago...

but i personally must admit, and i'm being serious here...i like driving out to the country side, and i do it Fast...doing 40-60kmh doesn't cut it, so i'm used to 80 to 140kmh on the gravel roads...plus, you don't even feel the potholes (considering you're going 130-140kmh)
