Oil Service Display Rest

Featured Replies

Hi all, i'm new to the forum.

I'm struggling to find information on resetting the flashing oil message from the computer. (56 Skoda Fabia VRS - diesel)

I've so far found this:

Switch off the ingnition and press the reset button of the trip counter and hold.

SWitch on the ignition and release the reset button, one of the service events apears in the display.

Turn the button to the right.

Switch off the ignition.

There is a push reset button on the right hand stalk but the only button that can be turned to the right is on the dashboard, I have tried the above proceedure using those buttons without sucsess.

I was wondering whether I need a plug in reset tool ?

This is what i've found so far http://www.autotec-direct.com/vw-audi-skoda-seat-ford-service-interval-reset-tool-obd2-244-p.asp

Would this be the tool I need ?

Also I have seen the comprehensive list of suitable oils on the forum, can anyone recommend one or two in particular to help narrow the choice down a little, there's a lot to choose from.

Thanks in advance

Chris

If you're on fixed you can DIY it, if not you have to do it with a tool like VCDS.

Are you sure you did it right? It should reset. I'm sure I read that no vRSs were on variable servicing and it was only on Fixed type.

As for oils It does not really matter what oil you buy as long as it is 5W-40 and VW 505.01 spec (for fixed servicing). A lot of people use the Quantum stuff from TPS or dealers. Mobil or Castrol are very good but you only get 4 litres per bottle and you need 4.5-5 l. I use Millers XFE-PD in my engine.

I believe i'm on fixed but will look in the service records.

I'm pretty sure I did it right, I followed the proceedure above but will try again. Thanks for the advice on oil, I have a German and Sweedish near me, i'm sure they'll have Quantum.

OK it turns out I had the wrong proceedure, (i've just reset it at 1.15 in the am)

It should have been,

Hold down the trip reset (on dash)

Turn on ignition

Continue to hold down trip reset for around 10 seconds

Proceedure complete when trip resets to --- and service symbol dissapears

Release trip reset.

Apparently this sets serviciing to fixed if it wasn't already.

Now to buy oil and a filter, shame it rained this evening or I would do it tomorrow.

Hello chris-x1,

I myself have yet to find out what exactly the 'RESET' button does on the wiper stalk. LOL

Good luck.

Thanks. :-)

It turns out the reset button on the stalk clears the computer of its trip and fuel consumption figure etc. You need to hold it down for a few seconds.

Thanks chris-x1

You could of read the owners manual to find out the stalk button functions ;)

Thanks for writing up how to reset the service spanner light.

Just reset mine following your write up.

Check the time after reset. It's dead easy to nudge the button sideways and one way adjusts hours, the other minutes ( if all systems are the same)

Mibe done it staright away using guide at top ;)
