Eating O/S/F Cv joints!

Featured Replies

I am running a 54 plate superb as a taxi which has covered 236k and is treated better than some women.Recently though it has been going through a number of cv joints on the osf.The current one is from europarts and is clicking on full lock even although the boot is not burst and there is no grease being lost. This was replaced only 5 weeks ago.I have tried a few different makes suspecting that the cheaper ones were not lasting and was prepared to go for a dealer part - only to be put off by the 118 pounds +vat price tag.Does anyone have any ideas or similar experiences?

Well if you're killing the ones from ECP (Assuming they are not the cheapest ones they sell) then something else is causing it I guess or it isn't the CV.

Did you take the previous CV off and look at the damage to see what if anything has happened to it.

Sorry I can't be too much help.

There are both reground and Chinese joints on the market - such is the market penetration of the B5.5 and the poor quality of the OE boots.

Avoid these at all costs.

Ensure that an OE quality (European) replacement joint is assembled with the correct grease. I hope you still have the original shafts and they have not been transposed L to R. This can knock out one joint due to axial loading.

Is it possible it's the inner one doing it?

I got a GSP kit from GSF, £28 if you are a cabby all in, seems ok so far, even comes with a nice info sheet as well.
