Cheap Oil

Featured Replies

Hi to all my fellow superb owners, I went into my local ASDA and spotted mobil oil in the car section. They had Mobil ESP 5/30 504/507 spec 5 ltr, yes 5ltr not 4ltr like halfrauds for £32.00,what a cracking price, I would have bought 10 ltrs but i got some motul from opie oils when they had a promotion, shame.

Not sure about anybody else's experience with this spec Mobil 1 but I put it into my V6 and the engine developed an appetite for it (1l in 1500miles), I switched back to VAG Quantum 507 and the oil is still on the MAX mark after 2000 miles

That's not actually cheap tbh, GSF do one for about £27 iirc.

You need to check the specifications carefully.

For a PD you can use 505.01 for fixed servicing or 507.00 for variable. 507.00 replaces 506.01 and has a low SAP content to avoid oil combustion products blocking a DPF. It is reverse compatible with 506.01 which is now obsolete.

I think you'll find the GSF oil is 505.01 which is not fully synthetic. As I tow a heavy trailer, I use 507.00 (fully synth) oil and change it on a fixed interval basis - 7k miles.

Having tested oils in the past, I would very strongly recommend a fully synthetic oil for use with a turbocharger. I have seen too many bearing assemblies fail prematurely due to varnish build up from oils made from poor base stock. The make of oil is immaterial, it's the vehicle builder's spec which is all-important - I've had just about every 507.00 oil available on the UK market in my Superb - just shop around. The Asda deal looks good.

rotodiesel.

I have recently bought 4 x 5Ltr packs of VAG Quantum 504/507 synthetic lube oil off Ebay for £99 delivered to my door. It turned out that the Ebayer is a Skoda dealer in the midlands. I reckon I got a good deal there.
