God Damn Thermostat!

Featured Replies

Changed the Thermostat last week, after taking the old one out noticed in the box of the new one there was no new seal...... OK I thought I'll give it a go. Stuck it in (without properly looking at the new thermostat) and low and behold it started leaking!

Thought to myself ok, this is because of using the old seal. I get on to the supplier and say it wasn't included, "ok" they said, "we'll get you a new one out, it'll be a couple of days". No car for a few days and new seal arrives, get onto it this weekend and take out the new thermostat only to notice the bloody thing has a big kink around the outside! This is nothing i could have done. So yet again I've called them and they are sending me out a new thermostat and a new seal...... I'm sick of driving the misses 1.2 punto around now. It was quite fun at first but I've had enough... :(

Genuine or pattern ???

Not naming any names but when I replaced my thermostat and coolant temp sensor a month ago I got them from a certain online supplier, they were Febi Bilstein ones which were a third of the price of OEM. The thermostat has been ok touch wood but when it went in to the garage to have the temp sensor multiplug re-soldered they pointed out the Febi sensor wasn't seating correctly and rattling around, they ended up replacing it with an OEM one.

Got this one HERE

Theres your problem, I learn't a while back that pattern parts are pooh, I don't mean to sound condesending but oem is best especially with engine bits such as the stat and coil packs etc.

Not to worry, i'll get this one and swap it over tomorrow. If no good i'll have to get an OEM one. It was only £7 so i haven't lost too much if it doesn't work at all. Anyone know how much and OEM one is out of interest?

Aboiut £25 iirc

All swapped over with a new thermostat, temp is sitting right where it should be now and working fine again. Car is using LOADS less fuel now compared to before, for £7 and a bit of time i can't complain.

Thanks all!
