Knocking sound on steep descents

Featured Replies

Hello, I'd be grateful if anybody could possibly point out a solution to a mystery I've got with my 06 vRS. On steep downhill runs (and ONLY then) I'm getting a steady knocking sound coming from the rear of the car. This sound is directly related to wheel speed in that it's fast if I'm going quickly or slow if I'm braking. Any ideas? Anybody?

Cheers,

Steve

I would check the rear disc's for rust build up....

Very strange. If knocking is related to speed it has to be something rotational, but why going down hill would cause it is weird.

Is the car lowered by any chance? If so, it might be a tyre clearance issue.

Hmmm, good thinking. I suspect something to do with the rear discs anyway. Looking through the wheel spokes, they don't look too bad though. Will have to get the wheels off and have a closer look. Trouble is I tried that yesterday and inevitably they're bound tight to the hubs - no doubt due to all the salt and damp on the roads over the last few months!

Cheers,

Steve

Fabia's are bad for the back wheels getting stuck to the hubs, both my vrs and my mother's special edition do it. Just hit the tyre with a rubber mallet from the back of the wheel. it will soon come off.
