What oil for MY vrs?

Featured Replies

Hi, the oils very low and im gonna tell the mechanic to do a full oil change again as it will be the second time the oils been changed after the turbo was reconned after it blew.

Bare in mind this car was run for a period with no oil reaching the top of the head for a while and the car made horrible noises when that occured but it all works fine now.

Someone recommended I use 10W 40, bare in mind I will be doing full oil changes every 10,000 miles.

Theres's a seat dealer around the corner, shall i goto them and what shall i get?

Expensive stuff that is good for 20k intervals (meets longlife spec) is Castrol Edge 5W-30. I use it, and change it at around 10k.

Cheaper stuff that needs to be changed at 10k/12months (meets fixed spec) is Castrol Magnatec 10W-40.

Obviously you don't have to buy a Castrol oil, it's just my preference! Like I like to know I'm buying the best oil I can, so I go for the Edge stuff.

My local Skoda dealer will only sell me oil in 1 litre containers at an extortionate price - you're probably better off ordering it online from someone like Opie oils or get the garage to get a 5 litre bottle at trade prices from a motor factor.

Halfords with a trade card makes oil pretty good from them.

Ended up getting it from where the mechanics buy there's, £24.50 for a 5L tub of Genuine GM super synthetic, 5W-30. Should be good enough as he said its what recommended for the Vauxhall cars.

Got the oil changed, cleaned the TB gasket and got some new spark plugs. Feels smoother now. Last week I had a air filter and maf put in aswell.

Not much more I can do to it now is there? The exhaust rattles a bit, i put the gas down on idle and in neutral and I heard the exhaust rattling a bit, something might be stuck in there?
