Headlights scratched

Featured Replies

My headlights are quite scratched, it looks like th eprevious owner had those continental driving stickers, then struggled to take them off... are the superb's headlights plastic lenses available separately to purchase? There is also a bit of condensation inside, so the seal is a bit knackered anyway. Any thoughts? I am no good at polishing etc, haven't got the skills or the tools really.

The Head Lamps on the Superb have PC lenses which are hard coated and these can not be sourced seperatley........

You can however wet sand the lenses and then buff out such marks with a DA or Rotary Machine.........

As for the condensation this will be due to bulb replacement at some stage with the back caps having been not put back correctly causing a potential leak path and excessive humidity within the lamp, best bet is to remove the lamp off the car and put it infront of a radiator over night to dry it out........

Remove rear caps and park the car with the lamps in the sun - choose a sunny day.

After a while replace both caps ensuring that gaskets are in position and in good condition and that the mating surfaces are clean.

Valeo lamps have a large screw cap cover which provides a more even gasket pressure around its periphery - a far better arrangement. The "hook and clip" as used by Hella cannot give a uniform sealing pressure.

No doubt the previous owner used the stick-on beam benders because he couldn't find the crappily detailed "tourist" levers...

I wonder who got the contract for the supply of OE headlamps for the Mk2 Superb?

(Answer begins with "V").

Thank you guys.... the headlights have also turned a bit yellow, ugly really , probably reduces the light output at night.

I have also spotted that the lights sit a bit low, in relation to the dumper and the wing, maybe 5 mm too low, looks like crappy early build quality (mine is 2002) or dropped with age, or the headlights were taken out at some point and not put back in properly. For this reason I will be taking it all out and try to dry the units because of condensation, investigate the tourise lever position while its out and I can have a good peek, and also try and re-align the lights with the bodywork so it looks pukka!
