advice on buying an octavia mk 1

Featured Replies

Hi. My brother suggested I see what people think on this car I have seen, octavia 03 plate. 1.9 tdi, (8v, 110hp) 54,000. Great condition. garage wants 3995 for it and they will service it and do cam belt change.

I have two questions;

1)Is this a good price?

2)what would be a realistic amount to knock off if i did the cambelt myself (via my local garage)

thanks

£4000....sounds like alot - check autotrader and glass guide for a rough idea of how much they cost as this time. Also does it have full service history - make sure it was serviced at the correct intervals, otherwise these cars really do last. :)

forgot to add: full service history (dealer) too

it is a little top heavy but buying from a dealer you will always pay a bit more than normal but it sounds a good car and with that milage its only just run in.

if the car is good the dealer is nice then thats a good deal if they do the cambelt aswell and you wanna maybe get 12 months warranty thrown in aswell to seal the deal.

good luck remeber its a buyers market dont be scared to barter big time

Well if it helps, I bought my octy 3 yrs ago and is 1 yr older than yours for £3500, I'm presuming it's an elegance. I feel the price is very steep for a 7 yrs old car. But if it's got new timing belt, water pump, tyres etc, may just be worth it, aside the car will pay for itself anyways if it's anything like mine :)

Suggest you look at other dealers and get a feel for what you would expect to pay for the mileage and what deal / extra warranty can be thrown in.

That is a typical dealers price for a 03 plate low milage from what I have seen.

If you are happy and the car drives well and you have a full history then go for it :thumbup:
