Annoying design flaw

Featured Replies

I'm sure this isn't the first time this has been brought up but the only thing that really annoys me about my new Octavia is the fact that when it's been raining and water gathers on the tailgate, you open the boot and water runs straight down the glass and off each side - straight into the boot (or onto whatever you have in the boot!)

Any easy fix for this, rather than wiping off the excess each time? I was thinking something like rear screen spoilers that sit each side and channel water to the bottom (top) of the screen when the tailgate is open

me personally ive put a 3" line of silicone either side under the screen in the gully. seems to work ok

Yep! It happens to me and it's very annoying when you have your Accounting Books in there like me on Thursday morning.

I might have to sort it out eventually.

i might do it with black eventually but for now it stops everything in the boot getting wet

Yep done the same as this is very annoying flaw.

I ran a bead of black rubber sealant along the whole channel, which works quite well as it prevents water build up in the channel and any rain that runs off the rear window just runs off the sealant and over the boot missing the interior(only just) but is far better.

There is no fix for this. I've done the sealant trick, but water still rains down onto the previously dry contents. I have tried the swipe of hand on the underside of the spoiler and the gradual opening of the hatch in increments of 150mm at a time. Ultimately, you'll still get H2O in the boot. My advice is buy an estate and then you're sorted. Mind you, then there's the paint issue on the tailgate around the handle. In the end, I tend to think f@*k it and assume it'll happen, then get in and attend to the more important issue of annoying BMW and Audi drivers.

Agree that is no real fix, but mine works well. You should open the boot quicker as it is more of a problem raising boot slowly on the initial opening as that is when it starts to run onto the plastic side panels where the parcel shelf sits on.

The only fix for this is the buy the combi version....it happens on the mk II as well

Yep have to agree no point trying to fix this just have to put up with it, can be very annoying though. :S

Possibly spray the rear window and boot hatch with RainX  so the water does not sit there in the first place.
