Power steering fluid

Featured Replies

Hi

Can anyone confirm which colour PSF a 2005 Superb should have in it? I was under the impression that it should be green, but mine is pale red.

If it's the wrong fluid, can it be drained off and replaced with the correct stuff? :o

Thanks

Phil

Yep green it is ... and like with most things on my superb it needs to be the correct stuff apparently.

£7.50 a litre from VW. Although you'll only use about 100ml to top it off .... so you'll end up with almost a full bottle left over when you come to sell the car. :) If you were local I'd offer you come round and use up my spare 900ml buddy.

As for draining it, with most cars you can locate the power steering pump, follow the hose from it to your steering rack, loosen off the nut where the hose meets the rack and place the hose in a bucket. Start the car and fluid should drain. (sometimes turning the wheel from lock to lock). Once fluid stops flowing, re-attach nut and refill. Run engine for a bit, re-check level.

EDIT: Actually came across this, take a look at bottom of page.

Thanks :)

I thought that may be the case.

Anyone know the best way of getting the fluid out? :S

Found out how it's done, now. I guess it'll just be a case of flushing lots of the correct green fluid through until it comes out the correct colour.

That's one way, drain reservoir and fill with green stuff, repeat until it's all green. Although there is a link posted above to show how to flush the system.

Incidentally, the red fluid is probably just ATF fluid someone has topped up with.
