TOOLS FOR CHANGING BREAK PADS?

Featured Replies

Im just about to order new discs and pads front and rear for my mk1 vrs octy and have read on different threads that i need a wind back tool for changing the pads

the guy @ ECP.com said its a tool kit for £50 but can i do the job with just the windback tool itself. i think the kit included bleeding parts also but not sure... basically i need to know exactly what tools i need to do the job but obviously if i can get by without buying half the store that would help

as usual thanks in advance

irish VRS

IIRC the windback tool should only be about £17-20

You definately need it it's very very difficult to do the job without one

You don't need to bleed any fluid out just get someone to keep an eye on the reservoir as you push the calipers back in to make sure it doesn't overflow. Or you can bleed a little fluid out of the bleed nipples (attach a small hose and collect it in a pot) as you push the calipers back in then top up the reservoir if necessary.

Edit IIRC it's Laser Windback tool 1314 for the VRS and other Mk4Golf platform cars:

Wind back tool is needed for the backs, but not the fronts.

couple of spanners are needed to undo the rears, and a 7mm allen key (ideally on a socket drive) for the front (well that is what I needed for my TDi with FSIII calipers anyway)

18mm socket if i remember for the front cause it was the only one i never had in me toolkit had to borrow one on a permanent basis from work lol
