Chevron 5w30

Featured Replies

My Local Costco is doing 20 litres of fully synthetic Chevron 5w30 for £30 inc vat. This is half the price of any other fully synth I have seen. I know chevron is use quite a lot by independent garages. Does anyone know if this oil would be okay for a VRS?

Cheers,

depends if its up to vw spec, for that price i doubt it but you never know

20 litres!! That should keep you going for a while!

At £30 I wouldn't touch it personally, as it's fairly likely that its of poor quality. Like Bond said check that it meet the VW specs.

Yeah, 20L would do a good couple of years even with my OCD habit of changing the oil every six months. I have a note of the specs that were printed on the side of the container back at home so hopefully this will give me the info I need. How do I tell if it meets VW specs?

How do I tell if it meets VW specs?

IIRC it lists the specs it meets on the side of the drum, and I'm pretty sure it does meet some of the VW ones - though I don't know whether this includes the spec needed for the vRS.

It's essentially a trade drum and so is priced accordingly, the oil itself isn't low quality...

Rob.

even a trade drum of longlife from us with the vat is 3 times the cost of this so i would be dubious but like i said you never know only the specs will give you an indication of quality

It should be OK for winter use.....but assuming we are going to get a decent summer this year, I'd have thought a 5w40 would be the right oil ;)

I live in Scotland. We might get a decent couple of days at some point but I wouldn't choose my oil based on this!

The codes written on the can were:

660 02444 020 E - A-0168-0

Not sure if there are any VW specs in there!

If it doesn't state the correct VW spec number on container it is not suitable. i.e. it does what is says on the tin.

Shame, was hoping for a nice source of cheap oil.

Back to Quantum I guess!

sick of looking at quantum, think i've got more quantum oil here than iraq

I think I have probably asked yo this before Bond007 but which Quantum oil is best for the VRS?

Skoda told me Synta 10w40 was the recommened product but I have heard of other people using the Platinum fully Synth 5w40.

Cheers,

conflicting stories on this to be honest, obviously longlife is the 5w30 but when it comes to fixed some say use the 5w40 fully some say 10w40 semi is fine, audi recommend 10w40 for the TT's so we supply that but i put 5w40 in my octy, both vw spec oil so i wouldnt worry whichever you put in

In that case, I reckon I'll go with the cheaper synta and keep changiung every 6 months or so.

Thanks for thew advice,

iep
