Is this legal?

Featured Replies

My cars currently being sorted after a accident and have some left over paint, I was wondering if it was legal to paint the White bits on the rear lights?

I own a se model and think it would look good with black on the red, also black roof? Paint or vinyl???

Will be painted tonorrow if it's legal but need the right info please

With just black paint?! Not a chance will that be legal... I've used flyeyes kit from Ebay which is a totally legal tint - give it a go.

Vinyl the roof

I think the police will pull you if the lights are too dark, there is a young chap that lives down the road and he got pulled for having dim lights, he got told to change them.

When you say white bits, what exactly do you mean? and what colour is the paint?

It's going to be in the same blue as my car, it's the indicator and reverse (the White v shaped lens) with black round the outside, got told it's legal aslong as you don't block the light?

I must stress this will be done by a professional sprayer in a professional paint shop

thank you sir hope your ok dude, we should meet soon

When I brought this up on here:

consensus was that it's not legal.

I haven't been pulled yet and have passed *many* a Police vehicle. Will be interesting to see what happens come MOT time...

(I *do* love the look).

Black roof!!! Holy f, what next. How to ruin an excellent car.

How mine looks at the moment (pretty much)

This was taken at the Jurassic Coast meet last summer

Looks darker than it really is to be honest, but I think 99% of the light from the brakes, etc goes through the honeycomb

I saw one at the ulimate dubs show and thought it looked awesome, seen a few around and as I'm going for black alloys i think the roof will really make it look good! Going vinyl so don't worry can be removed!

Just for information, rear lights include reflective areas so if you ARE going to tin them, you may be breaking the law if they get obscured.... you may have to fit extra reflectors to the rear of the car to comply with the law/get an MOT, even if the tint still lets the bulbs shine in their correct colours!

as previously mentioned ,but in more detail .If the Police Officer decides that overall the amount of 'Red light ' showing to the rear during the dark,is insufficient,he can report you for an Offence . I think it is covered in 'Construction and Use ' ,for this reason the Officer is likely to be a Traffic Officer. Electrically they have to be maximum 5 ,or 6 watts ( filament type ), to distinguish them from 21 watt Brake lights. I am not sure where LED ' type lights come into this because they are far more efficient.
