Replacement brake discs & pads

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm looking to replace the brake discs & pads on my Octavia VRS (02). Does anyone have any advice on 3rd party 'performance discs', eg. MTEC drilled & grooved discs, that you can pick up on eBay..?

Thanks.

Thanks - funnily enough, those were exactly the ones I was looking at on eBay...

Does anyone have any experience of discs from Brake-Depot... are they any good..?

My only concern is the drilled / grooved - is there any significant disadvantages to these, in general road use? eg. Do they wear out pads more quickly, as has been suggested? Extra noise? I presume the susceptibility of drilled discs to cracking is only a factor for heavy / track usage?

Pads - I am thinking Mintex RedBox - after reading up on pads, it seems that these are preferable for road use, rather than the EBC red/greenstuff pads...

I have just fitted some TRW discs with EBC-Red pads and am very pleased. I would have gone for Ferodo pads but just couldn't justify the cost as I don't drive the car that hard really.

Are you after drilled and grooved for the bling factor? I would just recommend vented discs myself but it's your car ;)

ebc discs are not drilled right threw there just dimpled would that make a difference, i would have thought iwould be just liked having grooved discs? im also looking for a full set of discs and pads. i no ebc used to be known for warping but have addressed those issues

I Have black diamond drilled and grooved discs with predator pads.

Very good combination

Be careful as that EBay auction is only for there company disc and EBC pads, not EBC disc's sorry if you are aware of that..

That seems quite expensive for a none known performance company disc. You are better off getting something like Mintex Discs and performabnce pads. Look up those on Ebay You can look up ones for Audi S3 as thay are the same. 312mm disc's.

There are lots of other companies selling discs that I know folks have used like these.
