As part of the deal I came to with the dealer for my Octy was any accessories at cost price. Is this worth anything? Or are all the accessories over priced anyway? You ask " Is this worth anything". Then the answer has to be YES, as any discount has a value

no matter how small.

The accessories listed for the Skoda products as a whole are, IMO, very reasonably priced.

Just take the time to look at other VAG accessories for yourself to prove a point.

When you talk about "looking at off RRP to get to cost" you have to state what cost.

The cost to the dealer with/without vat, for a single item or multi items attracting larger discounts,

the dealers buying price without any overheads, etc etc.

Even if the dealer were to sell any item at the price purchased they would loose money,

as it is necessary to cover operating costs.

So the only meaningful figure you can go on is the discount off the RRP.

You mentioned "staff discount" implying that perhaps you are employed by a car dealer(Skoda?)

It may well be that you are entitled to special staff discounts that are not available to Joe Public.

Well all this is not helping you very much, so I would like to tell you that when I purchased my Octy, in March

this year, the overall discount obtained on 6 items was 19.0% off the RRP. But I don't believe that, even with this discount,

it equaled the price that the the dealer was invoiced.

I don't work for the dealer (Skoda or any other) my comment was based on my thinking that the dstealer might just sell the accessories at a staff discount price instead of cost price. The manager said he would "sell at cost so they would make no profit from it." Is that equivalent to staff discount? So any discount over 19% would be reasonable then?

Selling at cost and making no profit are not the same thing.

Example - Buy (cost to purchaser) @ 100 + o/h's (say 10%) = 110 (sell price w/o profit) + 20% profit = 137.5 (final sell price including 20% profit)

In my experience any discount, when purchasing new car accessories, over 19% is very acceptable.

This discount must be taken in isolation and not influenced by other trade offs. Under/over pricing an exchange vehicle for instant.

My figure of 19% was obtained without any adjustments being made as I was not exchanging a vehicle or requiring finance.
