Hi people,

Bit of a long post this one, sorry.

I could use some advice. I've just had a 2005 Octavia Elegance 1.9 TDi that I bought a couple of days ago scanned by a mate (engine running) and noticed the following (I've edited out the unimportant bits):

01-Engine -- Status: Malfunction 0010

03-ABS Brakes -- Status: Malfunction 0010

16-Steering wheel -- Status: Malfunction 0010

46-Central Conv. -- Status: Malfunction 0010

52-Door Elect, Pass. -- Status: Malfunction 0010

56-Radio -- Status: Malfunction 0010

The engine fault is obvious. I have a bad glow plug so that's OK. I can trouble shoot that with a multi-meter. It hasn't thrown up a MIL though which I'm not sure about. If it's bad it should throw up a light unless it's an old code and has not been cleared?

ABS breaks - Intermittent. Could that be down to cold weather logging a code?

00888 - Wiper Switch for Intermittent Operation (E22) - This is a common fault on Octy 2. Again cold weather or switch fault?

01135 - Interior Monitoring Sensors - Intermittent - where are the interior sensors on the Octy 2?

Radio - 01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded

000 - -

This one has me puzzled. No errors in Address 19 - Can Gateway. Stream Radio and CD changer all work fine. Rear parking sensors show up OK as does Climatronic. Sound is good. AFAIK I have no special active speakers etc (although seller said 'premium sound system' in ad). No telephone preparation. AM and FM reception is good enough and system menu says 'Antenna on'. Any ideas what this fault is all about.

Current coding is 0000400. What should the bog standard coding for a Stream with no maxidot and standard steering wheel be? As far as I see there is no basic coding for the Stream.

Also I didn't get the security code for the radio. Can a dealer generate the code from the scanned info?

Any help will be gratefully received. Everything else seems pretty good with no error codes showing.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Not all faults cause the MIL to light. Only emissions related faults must cause the MIL to light. The fault is not showing an intermittent status so the ECU at the time of the scan was still seeing the glow plug problem. Troubleshoot that and when it is corrected, clear the code.

ABS breaks - Intermittent. Could that be down to cold weather logging a code?
An intermittent fault by definition is one which has been set but was not present at the time of the diagnostic scan. Clear the code and see if it returns.
00888 - Wiper Switch for Intermittent Operation (E22) - This is a common fault on Octy 2. Again cold weather or switch fault?
Again, the fault is intermittent - if you have not noticed any problems here, I would clear the code and see if it returns.
01135 - Interior Monitoring Sensors - Intermittent - where are the interior sensors on the Octy 2?
- Sorry, I can't help with this one. I don't know the Octy 2. We don't see them on this side of the pond.

Did you make any changes to the radio? I have seen this error come up on cars and never cause a problem with the operation of the radio. Not sure it is one to worry about since the radio is working fine. As to the Radio code, the dealer can use their scan tool and their to the factory to set the radio code but I don't see a reason for you to spend your money to have them do this when the radio is working fine.

0888 is the switch on top of the wiper stalk that sets the sensitivity of the auto wipers.

It's worth trying some switch cleaner in there, but otherwise it's a new stalk if it comes back.

Interior sensors are the alarm sensors and they are located in the area in front of the sunglasses hold/lights in the front middle roof area.

There was a bad batch of these and IIRC the solution was replacement.

The T30 voltage low, sounds like the car had a weak/ flat battery and that caused it.

As Bruce says, I'd clear the lot, take the car for a run for a week, then rescan it and see what has come back.

Thanks for the info.

I've heard of a lot of complaining that the sensitivity switch seems to do nothing at all or is erratic. Maybe down to misunderstanding how the sensor behaves in variable driving conditions or maybe the switches are prone to intermittent failure.

I'll also check the fuse on the ABS. Could be a wrongly rated fuse is in there and getting hot. That would definitely pull the volts down.

Thanks again.
