Mismatched tyre sizes, vRS

Featured Replies

Hi All,

After 8 years and 106,000 miles of owning my MkI Octavia vRS I traded it, today, for a MkII 2008 Octavia vRS.

It's nice, but taking a bit of getting used to after 8 years of the same car.

Anyway, poking around the car I discovered that it has different sized tyres front and rear. On the rear it has 225/40 R18s and the front has 215/45 R18s, all Michelin Pilot Exaltos.

Is this common?

Strikes me as odd in a Fwd car.

Here's to another 8 years of Skoda ownership. :)

The tyres should all be the same size (225/40). It sounds like they have put the wrong tryes on the rear.

Okay, thanks.

It's the fronts that are wrong and they're about half worn now. Probably going to be replaced sooner rather than later.

The fronts are definately wrong, when I got mine it had 225/45 18 all round, I pressume those were picked because of the price?, but as PSM said the standard tyre is 225/40 18.

I've had a quick look around online and 215/45s seem to be more expensive than 225/40s e.g. Pirelli P Zero Neros at Blackcircles are 115 pounds for 225/40s or 141 for 215/45s (possibly an uncommon size).
