Felicia 1.6 flat spot 1000rpm - 2000rpm

Featured Replies

Hello all. My year 2000 Felicia, 1.6 glxi has just developed a strange problem with the engine revs. I first noticed that the idle speed had increased from 900 - 1000rpm almost as it does from cold starting. I then became aware that it had become almost impossible to maintain engine revs anywhere between 1000 - 2100rpm. When you touch the pedal it jumps from 1000 straight up to 2000 rpm. I have just given the vehicle a full service and ran an engine oil flush through prior to changing the oil. I chocked the accelerator pedal to try to maintain the revs at the required 2000rpm for 15 minutes and found that the rpm would surge from 2000rpm for 15-20 seconds and then drop down to 1000rpm for 4-5 seconds. There is no misfire at all and apart from this every thing else is running smoothly There just seems to be this mysterious "dead spot". It is noticeable when driving and makes maintaining a slow speed difficult. It would also seem that the revs have stuck briefly at around 2000rpm when i have backed off the pedal which as you can imagine is worrying. The accelerator cable all seems fine and there are no obvious loose electrical connections. I have sprayed injector cleaner through the system but with no improvement. I presume this is a fault in the injector system or a sensor somewhere but as usual it is the diagnosis that is the problem so any advice would be most appreciated.

Many Thanks.

JJ

try doing a throttle body alignment, it should cure the surging

Thanks for the info Tom. Can you elaborate a little as to what is involved in aligning the throttle body?

if you disconnect the battery overnight, when you reconnect it should do it automatically..

failing that you need vag-com..

Am I right in thinking Tom that after connecting the battery you have to turn the ignition on and leave it a minute and it will do it?

Phil

that's a good question phil :wonder:

if i'm honest i can't remember... i would have thought it woud do it as soon as you reconnect the battery.... i've never done it like that before becuase i just vagcom it.. far too eager to wait overnight

Lol. I have a feeling you have to at least wait a few seconds to let it adjust itself etc.

TBH I have left it off for 10 mins before and it has done the trick!

Phil

it will be really obvious because you can hear the throttle body idle motor cycling round it's various angles, like a kind of whirring noise
