You're cheapest option would be find a secondhand lump and change. Particularly if you did it yourself!

Wouldnt happen to be a silver one in darvel, up near the games hall? :giggle:

 possibly :D Lee's taking it i think :D

Went and saw it when i got mine, was gona try get the gearbox off him but he wanted to much for it i thought. Plus its pretty humped i thought. Needs an engine, an intercooler because its burst, im sure fulton said the guy had it in at his work and he thought the turbo was gubbed to, but wouldnt no until you got a lump in it i suppose. Depends just how much cheapness you got it for, but hope its less than he told me :wonder:

What did he tell you?

We're going up tomorrow night to have a good look at it. Would be a new lump and turbogoin in it anyway.............just depends on Mr. Richmond :D

He was talking more than a grand anyway mate. Just a wee heads up but the bodywork was fairly shabby, front bumper looks like its hit a rabbit or something, burst the front grill off and put a hole in the intercooler aswell. Might be worth a punt if you get it cheap enough though.

Your new brief looks cracking, i was in a dream looking at your car, didnt even realise it was you till last minute! :giggle:

Bodywork n stuff wont be a problem, know a good sprayer etc that should do it for a good price :D;)

We'll see what he say's about price when we go tonight.........

Cheers matey :D done the calipers "vRS Green" now  lol just gonna get the cash together for some other wee bits n bobs (remap, suspension, some interior toys etc etc etc :D)

Your Octy's looking clean and tidy (as usual lol)......get the porsche wheels on it or i'll be forced to get em off you :p :D .....................hmmmmm i wonder what it would look like ;) lol

Put a 2.8 VR6 engine in it instead! Imagine the noise.....

It'll fit fine, and use the existing gearbox (Mk4 Golf's and the Leon's were available with the VR6 engine in different countries). Dooooo it!

Or just find another 20vT off ebay or something if you want an easy ride.

Now THERE'S an idea! :D :D didnt think it would fit tho....................wonder how much a VR6 lump would rush me................fleabay here i go lol

You want either the BDE 2.8 VR6 or BUB 3.2 VR6. I would've thought the BDE could be had for the same sort of price as a 1.8T lump

Yeah like Chicken has demonstrated there are plenty of different VR6's that will work. 2.8, 2.9, 3.2 or 3.6 for starters. Then 12v (older) or 24v (newer).

Even the 172bhp 2.8 12v VR6 (AAA) from the Mk3 Golf will work. Must be plenty of those about.

Be careful not to buy one from a VW Transporter though. The 12v ones only had 138bhp.

My mates just bought a T4 Transporter with that 138bhp 2.8 12v VR6 (AES) in it. Thirsty in a big bus, but it'll sound nice!!

If it was me I'd try and find a 2.8 24v one.

There's a good list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Golf_Mk4

And here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VR6_engine

Cheers for the advice guys  cracking as usual :D

Spoke to my mate about VR6-ing it .......likes the idea but wants to keep it with the original engine (which is fair enough i suppose)

Looked at the car last night........not TOO bad but needs an engine, 10p size dent in the intercooler. The guy says the turbo's ok, but wouldn't want to take the chance.

The engine search continues lol :D

Had a look at it, need to check funds n speak to my mate about it lol :D

There are two being sold on here from the Hurse.

1 is a 1.8T and the other is a 1.8T modified to a 1.9T.
