Climatronic Help

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I have a problem with the aircon/climate system in my 52 plate Octavia vRS and was hoping someone can help.

The short story is that there is no cold air coming into the cabin. I had the refrigerant replaced last July (due to poor cooling) and this got the aircon cooling very well. By the start of the warmer season this year there was again no cooling so I assumed the system had a leak and so booked it into a local independant for an A/C service and leak check. The mechanic said that they car passed the vacuum test with no problems suggesting no significant leaks and commented that the A/C was blowing ice cold when he checked straight after the service.

When I went to pick up the car it wasn't really cooling the air much at all and (kindly without requiring payment) the garage owner said take the car away and try it for a while and see what happens. On the way home (2 miles max) they a/c seemed to suddenly kick in for a minute or so but that was it.

I have had a decent look over the system and the compressor is clearly kicking in when required and all else seems superficially in order. I ran the diagnostic program built into the climatronic unit which returned a 04FA error which I think corresponds to Recirculation Servo Flap. I can't see how this has an effect on air cooling.

Any body had a similar issue before and have any ideas whats really going on and what needs doing? I suspect the guy from the local garage will be scratching his head when I take the car back in.

Cheers

Rich

I had 2 fauls with mine.

One was the wire to the compreesor telling it to engage coroded through.

The other was the reciculation flap playing up. I used the basic control on vagcom to relaern the limits on my flap whcih fixed it, however, some need new flaps.
