Water spots and cleaning

Featured Replies

Hey folks,

With the lovely weather that we have at the moment, I am finding cleaning the car more "challenging". I seem to be getting water marks, no matter how crafty I get on part washing and drying.

Would a quick detaile rlike Meg's last touch sort this and do you know if it leaves a surface "barrier". Reason I ask is my diamondbrite coating is meant to have a monthly "top up" clean, which wont be able to get to the coating if there is something on top of it.

Cheers!

As seen in many of my threads and other's on DW, when the car is wet an application of Megs Last Touch will prevent streaking but also leave a nice glossy finish after the drying stage.

I wouldn't worry too much about Megs Last Touch adding anything else to Diamondbrite to be honest, do you have a kit to re-apply something on top of the product then?

Cheers matey, I'll get some Megs, and a search button, though I spend enough time on here left alone looking through DW emoticon-0100-smile.gif Does the Megs do anything when its dry? Problem I have is the one side of the car is dry before I have finished cleaning the other side. Guess I shouldnt complain, my house is in a nice sunny spot.

The Diamondbrite comes with a "6 year warranty" (yeah right emoticon-0100-smile.gif ) but to cover this you need to give it a wash once a month with what they call their "Conservor" it smells much like Stage 2 of the process and quotes if you put it on neat then it will give it an extra coating.

You are meant to put 2 capfulls in a bucket of water and cover the car, but I put 1 in about 1/4 of a bucket which does the lot.

It looks good, keeps a good sheen and beads well but having not seen it side by side with something that has been Zaino or Collonite etc I can't quote on comparisons.

The Megs does what is says on the tin really, leaves a nie slick 'Last Touch' to the paintwork............

Wasn't aware that as the end user you had to keep topping up the finish on Diamondbrite.......... :o

You learn something new, and possibly not very exciting every day :)

Couldnt find any LifeShine on ebay when I got my car so got this stuff instead. Its not a major hassle, its just a 2nd hand wash of the car once a month.

Didnt find anything on here regarding last touch other than a "hat is it" but I did find a very funny - "my wife left me and I found a scratch on my car spoof post" so not all in vain! :)

Last touch is very good as a drying aid. You can get really OCD about it and wash one panel at a time which will help. I just usually wash the car properly, then rinse the whole car down, then spray last touch on a panel at a time and whizz rund with a plush drying towel. I can just about get round the car before the last panel has dried. If it has howver, I just re-rinse and continue.

Top tip - I spray Optimum No Rinse on the car after I've washed it and it makes drying a LOT quicker!

Hehe, its not the drying time I am having a problem with :)

Do you gents use it neat or 1:1? I have just invested in a gallon of the stuff so doubt I will be running short anytime soon.

Dillution ratio is 1:1 as defined in the Material Spec Sheet and on the Megs Last Touch Spray Bottle if you have bought one..........

I have indeed, but I havent received either as I have only just placed the order. Cheers! :)

It appears that all of the paint treatments such as Supaguard, Diamondbrite, GardX etc. require a monthly top up with a conserver. Wash the car, apply a diluted conserver, rinse & dry off. Has anyone actually used a product such as Megs Last Touch in between these conserver applications for either a quick spruce up or as a drying aid ?

Not got supagaurd etc, but do have very clean, very polished, very sealed paintwork (it's currently wearing Duragloss).

I do use Last Touch as a drying aid and it doesn't affect the sealant.

Will have done after this weekend :)

Thanks, would be interested to hear your thoughts after using the Last Touch. Do you intend keeping up the conserver treatment each month?

No worries, I'll update this thread.

Yeah, Ill keep doing the conservor, it reckons I will get 12 applications out of the bottle at 2 caps per bucket, but as mentioned the 1 cap to a 1/4 that I use will give me 2 years worth, by which time I will probably have reapplied either the DB or turned to Baker21s rather nice little combo (refering to Zaino rather than Simon and Jules :) ).

My Octy was treated (FOC) with GardX which is similar to your Diamondbrite and like you I'm looking for a interim 'spruce up' /drying aid product.

Megs Last Touch will be fine on any applied 'treatment' but it will not add any major long term protection, it pretty much does what it says on the tin, leaves a 'Last Touch'.

If I were you I would invest in some kind of 'Quick Detailer / Spray Sealant' to top up your finish after each wash, this is all I do at the moment and my personal favourite is Zaino Z8........

Do you mean Z8 both in place of the monthly GardX conserver treatment plus after each wash with the Last Touch purely for quick clean ups/drying aid - ie. ditch the GardX conserver treatment ?

If you have the GardX then use it, it's going to be better than nothing and then just use Last Touch I guess, hadn't realised that you have the conserver, so ignore my suggestion of Z8............ :'(

Id use a waffle weave drying towel to dry that one mate, followed by some last touch :)

Anybody thought of fitting a magnetic scale inhibitor in line before their external tap?

I put one in when I fitted a shower recently and the shower screen hardly water marks at all now....

Just a thought.....

I think thats part of the problem at my place. The waters so hard Chuck norris is frightened of it.

That was my intention since I was not quite certain of any compatibility problems between the GardX including its monthly conserver re-treatment with any interim Last Touch applications. The consensus of opinion seem to suggest 'no worries'

The only reason I had the GardX was because it was included within the deal as a so called 'freebie' although I must say it appears to be doing a decent enough job - so far!

there are filters available for AFTER the outside tap. got some good reviews but seemed pricey to me.
