Superb + Biodiesel

Featured Replies

Hi folks after much pondering i decided to give biodiesel a go in my superb last week!

To my surprise the car seemed to run a lot better with slightly increased fuel economy

At 92p a litre it is also a massive saving and there seems to be less smoke and only the slightest whiff of veggie oil.

The only problem i have had is that the car is harder to start - at normal temperatures - cold starting is ok.

Since i run the car as a taxi this is a bit of a problem and i am wondering if this would cause the pump/starter any long term damage?

The fuel is used veg oil and not rapeseed and the car is a 105 avb 2004 with 240k on the clock.

Also does anyone know of any additives etc that would help with this problem.

Any input would be great - Rob. ;)

Almost forgot to mention i have tried a 50/50 mix which has had the same effect.

Draws breath..... I think it's not recommended in a PD tbh, lot of potential damages to pumps and injector's iirc, when doing anything like this do a google first, and make sure it ain't some chav whose replied saying all is fine, these ppl never tell you about how they killed their engine etc.

Give you an example, there is a video of someone doing a launch control in a dsg, he's also done one of the car limping, and finally after a reset he's bouncing the rev counter and wondering why his gearbox is fluffed.

Sorry can't directly help here, but my 2.5 tdi user handbook endorses biodiesel

I suggest you check the user handbook of your car too, apologies if you have already done so.

2.5 is an entirely different animal to the 1.9, I'm not saying you can't use it, just that iirc it's advisable not to in PD engines, hth.

Ive noticed my local BP have signs on the pump stating the diesel contains 7% biodiesel. Car seems to run better tbh, but it is again a 2.5TDi
